Agapanthus

Even though I have this plant in my garden, I don’t really spend much time looking at it closely, unlike many other plants I have. This was to my detriment, because I completely misjudged and didn’t notice the exact layout and growth of each flower. I thought they were separate leaves, but they are actually a series of little flower heads.

I was an hour into painting the basic shapes, so I had enough time to look at them properly and adjust. It’s actually one of the things I really love about painting, and especially nature; I get a chance to really study each individual living thing and, in spending time doing so, notice things I would otherwise have overlooked.
