I have created black and paintings before but never reduced down to this level. I wanted to keep it as simple as possible using the negative space to create the details. All I did was use all the darker parts of the shell to create the shapes that were originally left unpainted until I decided what colour I was going to use for specific highlights to make it feel more whole as a completed image. Of course white was the best choice but I took me a while to recognise that.
I loved painting in this style and it’s one I’ll definitely be revisiting again.
