This was a commissioned painting. I was given quite a free reign for this commission as the person who ordered it just wanted a rhino and left the breed and position of the rhino fully in my hands.
The painting faced me with a new challenge as I chose to go slightly larger, meaning having to reach the extremities of the paper put a lot more strain on my neck muscles. It is the biggest painting I have ever completed.
I put a lot of emphasis on the horn as it defines the rhino as well as the weathered nature of its skin, representing the hard life a rhino leads.
